Whose Garden Was This?

Silent Spring was written by Rachel Carson on September 27, 1962.

The book is widely credited with helping launch the environmental movement. The book documented detrimental effects of pesticides (especially DDT) on the environment, particularly on birds. Carson accused the chemical industry of spreading disinformation, and public officials of accepting industry claims uncritically.

A similar but new battle may center on nicotine-based neonicotinoids as they are now being blamed for honeybee hive collapse disorder.
......

Critics say that a more natural approach is "Integrated Pest Management" , basically using bugs to eat bugs...

Whose Garden Was This? (Deutschendorf)

Whose garden was this? It must have been lovely.
Did it have flowers? I've seen pictures of flowers,
But I'd love to have smelled one.
Tell me again I need to know
Forests had trees, meadows were green,
oceans were blue, and birds really flew.
Can you swear that it's true?

Whose gray sky was this? Or was it a blue one?
Did it have breezes? I've heard records of breezes,
But I'd love to have felt one
Tell me again I need to know
Forests had trees, meadows were green,
oceans were blue, and birds really flew.
Can you swear that it's true?

Whose river was this?
You say it ran freely.
Blue was its color.
I've seen blue in some pictures,
But I'd love to have been there.
Tell me again I need to know.
Forests had trees, meadows were green,
oceans were blue, and birds really flew.
Can you swear that it's true?

…for when a great oak grows in what is now my garden, I hope there will be bucks to bed in its fallen leaves, and hunters to stalk, and miss, and wonder who built the garden wall.  - Aldo Leopold  A Sand County Almanac
