There are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is
the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other
that heat comes from the furnace.”

Back Home Again (Excerpt) (Deutschendorf)
There's a storm across the valley, clouds are rollin' in
The afternoon is heavy on your shoulders
There's a truck out on the four lane, a mile or more away
The whinin' of his wheels just makes it colder
He's an hour away from ridin' on your prayers up in the sky
And ten days on the road are barely gone
There's a fire softly burning, supper's on the stove
It's the light in your eyes that makes him warm
Hey, it's good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long lost friend
Yes, an', hey, it's good to be back home again

How long can men thrive between walls of brick, walking on
asphalt pavements, breathing the fumes of coal and of oil, growing, working,
dying, with hardly a thought of wind, and sky, and fields of grain, seeing only
machine-made beauty, the mineral-like quality of life? ~Charles A. Lindbergh, November 1939

Our ability to perceive quality in nature begins, as in art,
with the pretty. It expands through successive stages of the beautiful to
values as yet uncaptured by language.”
